Uniport Declines Request For Details Of Jonathan’s Certificates

The University of Port Harcourt has declined to grant the request of a human rights group, the Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (IHRHL), for details of the academic records of President Goodluck Jonathan at the university.
IHRHL had, on behalf of Nigerians based in Edo State, written to the university to furnish it with details of Jonathan’s academic records under the Freedom of Information (FOI) Law, but the university declined, saying the request did not fall within the provisions of the said law.
Executive director of IHRHL, Anyakwe Nsirimovu said: “It was last month that a Nigerian from Edo State approached the institute. She wanted us to apply on her behalf to get the details of Dr Ebele Jonathan’s certificate from the University of Port Harcourt under the Freedom of Information (FOI) Law, but they (UNIPORT) refused to give us the details.”

When contacted on phone, the public relations officer (PRO) of the university, Dr Williams Wodi, told LEADERSHIP Friday that he would not give out any information on the matter as he does not grant telephone interviews.

Wodi said, “We issued a statement and we put out everything in the public domain; so, I don’t understand this one you are talking about – of cover-up. But if you think we are covering up, come to the university so that we can see eyeball to eyeball; so that you can prove to me why you think that we are covering up.
