The ex-international says he is not sure the Super
Eagles will make it to the finals of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations
except the right thing is done
Former Nigeria international, Moses Kpakor, has expressed
uncertainties over the Super Eagles’ qualification chances for the 2015
Africa Cup of Nations with two games to go.Nigeria defeated Burkina Faso 1-0 in the final to emerge champions of Africa in 2013 in South Africa, but Kpakor feels the row between key players and returning coach Stephen Keshi may deny the team’s hope to defend the title.
He also cited the fallout between Keshi and his employers, who sacked him on the heels of securing his first victory in a four-game Afcon 2015 qualifying run-in.
Despite subscribing to the return of the ‘Big Boss’ alongside his backroom staff, the former BCC Lions star insisted the cooperation of the top officials in the Nigeria Football Federation to ensure the team qualifies should be top priority.
He feels the Federation is not doing enough in terms of support for the technical crew to realise the team’s immediate goal of qualifying for the continental championship next year.
“As we speak now, things are not as they should between the coach and NFF leadership. The animosity is still strong amongst them,” Kpakor was quoted by Daily Newswatch.
“It is important for them to know that what they have been toying with belongs to Nigerians. I have said it times without number that this is not all about Stephen Keshi and his crew, but about Nigeria.
“The best way would have been for them to deduce or know where their personal interest starts and ends.
“National interest should be topmost in times like this. Nobody should bring whatever grudge he has over the years against the other fellow into national assignment.
“Nigeria needs the ticket to be in next year’s premier football summit on the continent, where she will be the defending champions. Sanity must return to the football house”, he concluded.
